Points to note while setting up your Modem Control Panel:
-
Install the drivers that came with your modem. The installation
procedure is usually explained in the vendors Read Me files.
-
If you have not got a modem software for your Mac, check in the
Modem list provided in the modem Control Panel. If the modem is
listed carry on.
-
If your modem is not listed there, use Null modem. You will be
able to connect and also automate your connection albeit with
some unease.
Now you are ready and almost there. Please read the information
carefully and also check out the images which are in the links.
Click the links and images will open in a new window. They help
a lot in understanding your configuration.
-
Go to the
Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> Modem. This action will open
the Modem Control Panel.
-
From the first popup menu select the port you are going to connect
through. Generally you would select the modem port, as it is the
port meant for connecting your modem. If you are on a Powerbook,
however you will see Modem/ Printer port. Select it.
-
Now you have to select the modem you have. Like I have selected
Express Modem. You could select something like US Robotics etc.
depending on your modem.
Note: If you have a modem say from Supra and you do not see the exact
modem listing select the nearest name. Usually it will work. If
not select Null Modem.
-
Switch on the sound radio button if not already on.
-
Dialing depends on your telephone type. If you have touch tone,
select Tone. If you have pulse, select pulse.
-
Click on the Ignore dial tone check box. Your modem will attempt
a blind dial. It is suitable for Indian conditions. You might
leave it off, depending on the connection you have with your local
telephone company.
-
Close the Modem Control Panel and click on save when a dialog
box prompts you.
Now that you have configured the Modem Control Panel it is time
to configure the TCP/ IP Control Panel.
Click here to go on to the TCP/IP Control Panel settings.
